WHERE TO HUNT GROUSE

Ruffled Grouse and Spruce Grouse are numerous and tasty. Found throughout much of northern North America, grouse can be hunted from early autumn through to the end of January. (Verify the season in your area)

Grouse are easily hunted with a .22 or shotgun. My preference is 20g for shotgun. I personally use a Savage 24 C Camper Special which puts a .22lr over a straight choke 20g shotgun. Below are a few tips on where and when to find grouse. Good luck!

  • CONIFER COVER ADJACENT TO POPLARS, THORNAPPLE, CHERRY,  ALDER

  • HUNT DOWN WIND

  • EAST SLOPES

  • NORTH SLOPES AT MIDDAY

  • MORE ACTIVE MORNING / EVENING

  • CONIFER ISLANDS AMID STANDS OF HARDWOODS

  • STREAM BOTTOMS

  • LOGGING ROADS

  • POND EDGES
